What will the new Zones for Victoria's planners and its residents mean?
The Victorian Government announced three new zones for urban planning purposes last Wednesday 11 July. These are being referred to as Neighbourhood Residential, General Residential and Residential Growth. Some have already termed them as no-go, slow-go and go-go areas.

Moreland Greens Planning Workshop - Policy Review
I spent a couple of hours with Crs Jo Connellan and Thompson and half a dozen other local Greens getting to understand the Victorian Urban Planning system, such as it is. Once again reminded that local councils are in effect the bureaucratic arm of the Victorian Government, which implements the planning system determined by the Minister for Planning.
CERES Wednesday Market
Spent some of this morning discussing CERES future with the CEO Cinnamon Evans. The launch of the new ZEC projects will be in August. This project will showcase some of the cutting edge work of CERES in reducing eco footprints and enhancing sustainability. Afterwards I was able to do some market shopping with my CERES membership card which gives a discount!

The only way to prevent the terrible loss of life of asylum seekers at sea is to stop people getting on boats in the first place.
So if we want to stop the boats we need to give people an alternative to putting their lives in the hands of people smugglers.
Only by giving people safer pathways to a secure life will we reduce the incentive for people to take perilous journeys.
There are thousands of people languishing in camps in Indonesia who wish to seek asylum, but in the ten months to April this year Australia only granted 97 refugee visas out of Indonesia.
