In Melbourne, 53% of car trips are less than 5km and many of these trips could be made by bicycle instead.

To achieve this it is essential that people feel safe and comfortable riding, as research suggests the main issue holding people back from embracing cycling is the perception that it is not safe.

The Greens' Six Point bicycle action plan:

1. Increase the cycling budget
2. Provide more space for bicycles on the roads.
3. Protect vulnerable road users via the law
4. Introduce a 30km speed limit
5. Safety upgrade for entire inner and regional cities
6. Building for increased bicycle use in outer suburbs and rural areas
