Busy road in Melbourne

The Greens have a clear vision for public transport in Victoria

The root of the problems we’ve been having with public transport in Victoria is that responsibility is fragmented across agencies and private operators. Government has the responsibility to provide good quality affordable transport options.

People should be given increased opportunities to walk, ride, telecommute and take fast frequent and reliable public transport, thereby reducing the economic and environmental cost of private car use. The Greens public transport policy is a clear plan for a better transport system.

We also have a 6-point plan to fix Victoria's current public transport woes.

As part of the plan, the Greens will:

  1. End the failed privatisation experiment
  2. Establish a powerful, accountable Public Transport Authority (PTA)
  3. Create a separate task force each for trams, trains, buses, and Myki, as well as future growth and PTA task forces
  4. Make public transport safe
  5. Extend rail and tram systems
  6. Create 'Swiss-style’ public transport for regional Victoria

The Victorian Greens are fighting for better investment in public transport and better road planning across a number of fronts:
