As part of the Victorian Greens' commitment to improve public transport in Victoria, we have established an iPhone or iPad app to help you report on when you find yourself having to stand for a long time or squeeze into an overcrowded train, tram or bus. The app is just one part of our campaign to better understand and address the issues with public transport in Victoria.
Sick of not getting a seat on the train, tram or bus? Got an iPhone or iPad?
If you've got an iPhone or iPad, follow the steps below. If you've got another type of SmartPhone, click here to do the survey.
Many of us stand longer than we want to on public transport. But we don’t know how many people, or for how long. The government only checks overcrowding twice a year (and only at Clifton Hill, North Melbourne and Richmond for trains), and even then, it takes a Freedom of Information demand to get the results.
What we do know is that the government thinks it is acceptable to have 800 people on trains that can have fewer than 400 seats, and that trains often have more than 1,000 people.
Don’t stand for it. Help us get the facts about overcrowding.
We want to find out how long people are actually standing up. Push for new services by helping us get this information, and then letting people know about it on Twitter and Facebook.
What to do – 6 easy steps:
1. Download iSurvey from the iTunes.
2. Run the app, and click on ‘Device’.
3. Under Device Authentication PIN enter 600862
4. Under Device Name, put your user name.
5. We’ll authenticate you as quickly as possible.
6. Fill out the Don’t Stand For It overcrowding survey.
As well, if you’re on Twitter, tweet your results with the #wewontstandforit hashtag, and tell your friends what you’re doing through Facebook.
