If you are an Australian citizen aged 18 or over, you are eligible to vote. But first you have to enrol! Don't wait until an election is called - you can enrol once you are 17 years old (although you can't vote until you are 18). Once an election is called - and that can happen without notice - you will only have a short time before the ‘close of rolls’, after which you can't enrol and you won’t be able to vote in that election.

Don’t get caught out! It’s important to have your say. Enrol now and be sure that you’ll be able to cast your vote on election day.

If there is anything you don't know about enrolling - like whether you are eligible or if you'll be penalised for not having enrolled previously or how to enrol even if you are homeless - you can find everything you need to know on the Australian Electoral Commission website or by caling them on 13 23 26. You can even check your enrolment online if you are not sure that you are enrolled.
