The Manningham- Warrandyte Branch serves a unique environment. One of the starting points can be seen at Bolin Bolin (billabong) which is recorded as having been used for corroborees from at least 14,000 years ago.
This area is significant and adjoins social clubs, school sporting ovals businesses and housing. it is indeed eclectic in nature and offers people variety as they can then journey through art gallerys, eateries, nurseries, shops and human services. Ever present is the evidence of work and care by community groups. The area runs from intensely built-up multi-cultural suburbs in Doncaster and Bulleen to popular Warrandyte where the open, fragile bush needs further protection.
Manningham is serviced by major roads and the freeway and therefore invites much traffic and attention as we work to improve public transport. Of much concern is the need to further protect the extensive park lands which protect the Yarra River and provide much needed water for Melbourne, recreation and pleasure. These park-lands continue through to Warrandyte, where the fragile bush needs further study and protection and the whole area, popular as it is, requires careful management regarding development. This eastern jewel is utilised by people from outside the municipality and it is in everyone's interest and in the interest of future generations that we conserve this unique environment.
To extend the possibilities of our involvement in worthwhile projects and to assist the running of political campaigns, we intend to run social fund-raisers once a year. In our busy lives, it is also necessary to stop and enjoy the environment and the contribution of artistic people who make our lives richer and more meaningful. This year's money was actually directed towards the legal costs incurred by Bob Brown - ahead of our social event - thanks to the generous contribution by members. The social event will usually be held in the last Sunday of July - to help us through our Winter season. Sunday July 26th will see us celebrate at 'Lyndon Park', Tills Drive Warrandyte from midday onwards.
We also intend to run one genuine community public forum about a social issue each year and this year we are selecting the issue of Water. It is intended that this will be held in Spring. Manningham-Warrandyte Branch welcomes people from outside the Branch and certainly is open to the ideas and concerns of others.
The Local Government area that we cover is the Manningham City Council.
Our members come from the following localities; Bulleen, Templestowe, Doncaster East, Warrandyte, Wonga Park and Park Orchards.
