Greens will stand firm against religious exemptions

On the eve of the 15th annual pride march, Greens MP Sue Pennicuik, reiterated her determination to resist the plan by Attorney General Rob Hulls to continue to allow religious schools to discriminate against job applicants on the grounds of sex, sexuality, marital and/or parental status.
“In September last year, the Attorney General announced his intention to allow these exemptions or exceptions to continue under the Equal opportunity Act”, said Ms Pennicuik. “There is no excuse to allow such a blatant breach of human rights to continue under Victorian law”.

Rudd’s Childcare Figures - Balderdash

Childcare centres in Melbourne are full to overflowing and the figures Mr Rudd used to abandon his plans to build 222 new centres were grossly inaccurate - so says a new report by The Greens.

The report, "No Vacancy", found that only 28% of all childcare centres in Melbourne have vacancies for children under 2. Which shows that Rudd Government’s claim that 92% of centres had vacancies is grossly inaccurate.
