Welcome to the Australian Young Greens! We’re a national group of young, enthusiastic and progressive activists who are supporters of the political party, the Greens.
The Australian Young Greens is a network of various state Young Greens groups. Each of these state groups is involved in campaigns on various progressive issues, promotion of the Greens, and hold social events and meetings where you can meet like-minded people. The groups also act as a link between the political party and young people who are keen on getting involved.
Why the Greens?
- The Greens is the fastest growing political party in Australia, and it's not slowing anytime soon. Its importance to Australian politics is rising each day.
- The Party has a broad range of strongly progressive policies, from climate change, to refugees, to workers’ rights. They provide a voice in Parliament for those who want real change in Australia.
- The Greens are breaking down the two-party system, giving Australian voters a greater choice of whom they want to vote for, especially for those who are progressively minded and have lost faith in the big two parties.
- What the Greens stand for is at the heart of the interests of young Australians. They fight hard for strong action on climate change, quality and equitable education and policy formation that is for the long-term needs of our community, not short-term political point scoring.
However, the Greens recognise that change cannot truly come from Parliament House itself. It starts with grassroots activism from the outside, which creates pressure on our politicians and garners popular support. This is why many members of the Young Greens are not just volunteers contributing to the party, but are also involved in creating and fostering movements in collectives and networks on various issues we are passionate for.
