I am running for Moreland City Council because I believe that local communities are vital to our well-being and environment.I have been lucky to have lived in a few countries in my life including England, Sri Lanka and Canada, eventually settling in Australia in 1989. In all that moving, I got to be a part of many communities, but it was not until I moved to Brunswick nearly 5 years ago, that it really felt like home. The wonderful community, the vibrant life, and people that I have met have inspired me want to get more involved in the life of this city and contribute to it in a meaningful way.
As a social worker, I have seen that strong communities are vital to improving peoples’ well-being. I have worked in mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, youth mental health, and refugee, asylum seeker support services. I also have a passion for volunteer work. I will bring to Council strong consultation, listening and governance skills, as well as a commitment to making positive change.
